What is the Covid-19 PCR Test?
The Covid-19 PCR test is used to detect the presence of infection with SARS-CoV2 (the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 disease). This is a very sensitive test that looks for the RNA of the virus using a technique called RT-PCR. The PCR test is performed with swabs taken from inside the mouth and nose and is considered the most reliable test for Covid-19.
Is Covid Testing Painful at Home?
Covid -19 tests can be uncomfortable but are not painful. The PCR test is done gently using a cotton swab to penetrate the nose and throat. This may cause only mild discomfort, gagging or coughing.
What should I do if my PCR test result is positive?
If you test positive for Covid-19, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days. Since your test result will be recorded as positive in the Ministry of Health's e-pulse system, the filiation teams will visit you at home, provide you with the necessary medication and inform you about the process.
